Found an Old lathe

That spoked wheel on the left is nowt to do with the lathe, btw, so looks like that's another piece of machinery there. Can't see a flywheel protruding at the headstock plinth, so the treadle parts are possibly nonexistent any more. Take a photo of the saddle, next time you're there. That's definitely modified. Can't see any facility for the cross slide either, so it may have had some funky adaptation done, (possibly a saddle modified and fitted from a different machine), as the tooholder is mounted to something.

Thats a bit of luck, i have never found anything in sheds apart from rusty old pushbikes and other junk.

Il not let anything half decent go to the dump either. Looks like my shed build is going to have to become an ealier project for all of the stuff im gathering up. 5 sheds and counting

Looks like the standard format off-set swivel slide that Drummond liked to use Matt.

Dont worry il soon have some more up. What kind of power does it take to run these?

single phase motor or 3 phase 1450 rpm motor thats it

on another note you could buy a lathe for lets say 150-200 and still need to clean it up yours is for free

what time you spend on it is up to you but even paying for some stuff would be worth it in the long run

Whats the chances shes in good order an able to use? any idea what age it would be? Ill definitely be taking it home, big clean up operation in order then. Got a couple decent vices, leg vice and a nice anvil also. Smiling ear to ear.. il give that article a read later.. thanks matt

Il get more pics for you guys another day. That way yous can tell more about it as i have no clue..
Its also got a old metal tool box full to the brim of bits and bobs for the lathe.

hes got a nice collection of steel tools to get anyone started

i literally couldnt get anything moved to get decent pics of it, ive took a few hope their abit better than the others.

The big box i thought was full of tooling unfortuantly is full of tools just not for the lathe. There is another big heavy chest i cant get into as its a large padlock and junk in the way. I would need a hand getting it all shifted. Anyway hes some items ive took pictures of.

if i was offered the lathe for free think id be tempted to use for a timber lathe.

Really useful piece of kit if you've ever got to take apart an old shed or the like.
It is a heavy tool, with a 19 inch handle that can be slid out to 23 inches for more leverage.
No idea as to age but I guess yours must be well over sixty years old.
Don't use mine often but it's proved invaluable on several occasions.

The saddle and apron definitely aren't original. The topslide is one of the early ones, so pre 1917 is the lathe.

Amazing what people will just leave behind, some nice stuff there and with a little cleaning up you may be surprised of some of it's worth.

Even the old Tilley lamps fetch very good money, they were well made and spares are still easily obtainable.

Them pics arent even a 1/10 of the stuff thats there. Its unbelievable,
ive only really became interested in this sector this past year so never really paid attention to them.. ive still about 3 or 4 sheds to go through. Thats only 1 of 3 in that location and another 2 minute walk up the road theres another 3 sheds, the guy in the 2nd location was a engineer for shorts aircraft, also made farm equipment, my dad bought his place after he took ill an he moved into a home . The pics are from 2nd location ive to get the keys off my dad so only got pics of the sheds today. Only thing is with this guy is alot of the machinery he had he wanted it sold an donated to charity 35k they raised from the sales of his items. He had alot of machinery tractors vintage cars etc.. some place for a engineering business or small business in that sense. Great spot with 10acres of land
