Forklift regs

Hi all,

Anyone in the know with regs and forklift trucks.

I’ve bought one for use at my new unit.
Occasional use for engines, loading racking and setting machines in place.

Just me using it.
I understand LOLER is required for company use but is it required yearly for my inconsistent use?

LOLER is annual, unless it's lifting people, in which case it's 6 months.

And if you're going into publicly accessible areas, it should technically have motor insurance (although doesn't need to be road registered, provided you're not driving along the road).

is it worth getting the operators license to be honest with you yes

it helps and makes you aware of many things

do you need an operators license to use for a single business user it would be benefictial to have one and also serves a purpose with the insurance so to a degree yes

but can a single business user use one without one yes but anything to do with insurance accident and its wise to have a license

No such thing as a forklift license. No such thing as a license for any machinery.
It is merely a ticket to prove for the purposes of puwer that the minimum standard of training and competency have been met for record keeping within large institutions. There are plenty of other ways to prove this though without a ticket.
LOLER testing however is required. Regardless of who is using or entering the area and whether commercial or not it covers all lifting operations. It will definitely be required to gain insurance, however the testing may be included in your insurance. Even if it isn't a second set of eyes to look over it once a year doesn't look expensive when you consider what can go wrong.

.LOLER isn't expensive, worth just doing it

do you have employers liability insurance? if you do (not sure if you need it if it's just you?) let them know you have a forklift and they'll cover you for accidents with it

Every 12 months unless used with a (man) lifting cage. Then both the fork lift and the cage require inspection every 6 months.
