Hook knife, spoon knife, even heard it called a chair knife. Anyway, this one is a hook knife or at least it will be, one day...
I've not watched it all the way through, but I'd have said that you need more heat in the workpiece. You worked out that needed a bigger hammer though
Ahhh, that makes sense. Not being a “knifey” person I couldn’t think what it could be used for. It's a comission for a local tree surgeon. I think he wants to carve bowls and stuff. For what it is, it's about as big as they get I think as a hand tool. I am guessing the large radius of the knife will put a fair bit of strain on the handle fixing and a lot of stress in the bolster area where the blade meets the top of the handle.
<spoiler alert> Part 2 is where I start again from scratch!
I may finish the one above but I wouldn't sell it with a major weak spot . Probably make it a bit smaller and, I dunno, start making spoons...
It was a great video though, liked the honesty in it.
I am sure you will get it spot on with perseverance.
my spoon knives generally have a point at the end still, I do not know if that will affect the performance..View attachment 310644View attachment 310646 has the guy asked what way they want their bevel? My knives also are not so full circle as your design so you may be able to save yourself some hassle trying to get a regular circle if you can go semicircular instead.
