Ford Ranger brake slave issue

Never seen this before, caused to much mayhem in the brake drum to determine whether it was the cause or something else damaged it. Anyone seen anything like it before?

Never seen that. What other mayhem to the drum????

Sliding on diesel spillage I smacked the kerb hard enough to bend a half shaft well out of true and all it needed was another shaft.

Looks like the shoe has moved, pitched the piston over and pinged the side off the cylinder, never seen it happen before though

Possibly a part (clip, spring, retainer, etc.) could have come loose and wedged the shoe against the side of the rotating drum, forcing the shoe and piston sideways?

Looks like that cylinder has been broken for a while judging by how dirty it is compared to the rest of the casting?

My guess (and only a guess mind) is that the cylinder broke a while ago (maybe not completely but at least fractured). As the shoes wore down the the piston was able to extend further out and eventually reach the tipping point and blow sideways causing mayhem.

Had it been losing fluid slowly?
