You can get Chinese versions of these and there easy to wire in and won’t look that out of place

i dont like them tbh. Prefer old school gauges or full on futuristic screens. They have their place but I tend to think that place is only in race cars

I suppose @Jaffman could fabricate an appropriate surround to fit in with the dash, your linked one looks to be smaller than the original ford one.

They are small but if he’s going the sleeper route he will want factory dash and interior

I currently have 2 plans.

plan A is to try and get the standard dash working
Plan B will be to buy some spare clocks and shoehorn a load of stack gauges in them in an OEM looking fashion

When I was editing the video I was shocked at myself tbh! “Did I really do that?!?” Turns out I did lol, I do think the camera angle makes it look worse than it is but I did cringe!

I’m not an auto electrician lol.

I don’t really know what I’d say I am tbh as I’ve moved onto engineering management now but I done my apprenticeship and my first few years fixing trains. So mechanical electrical experience on heavy engineering really.

cars are just little trains lol, some bits are simpler (only 12v on a car for example) other bits are more complicated (lots of modules on cars that need to talk to each other in their own special way)

mechanical principles are mechanical principles so nothing much changes there apart from the spanner sizes

Apart from any training I think there must be a little bit of eccentricity, plenty of craziness, much bravado and huge mahoooossive Kahonas, to do a project like this.

Gonna have a problem with the dash as it’s complicated. Gonna have to trick the standard focus ecu into thinking it’s running some sort of engine

That's a massive achievement so far and great to follow what you are doing. Very brave to take on this wiring challenge. Please make a wiring diagram that you can sell me a copy for when I fix a 1UZFe into my 1947 truck. I have been trying to get my head around the bare minimum inputs to the ECU and to be honest, still guessing. If I may criticise your efforts regarding the ECU placement it would be better inside the car, or at least rotate it by 180 degrease to prevent the ingress of water where it is. Magic stuff, keep going.

couldn’t really mount it upside down as the cables weren’t long enough. It’s no dramas though - it’s not permanent

I’m hoping placement will be fairly well protected anyway because the headlight sits on top the bumper is in front and the wheel arch liners are behind it

Maybe consider once it's all connected and working to your satisfaction, a generous spraying with ACF50 to keep the water nymph at bay in the connectors?

I had a small tupaware box on my Ducati 748 with the main electrics sealed to death with mastic in there

Its fairly easy if you just focus on the 4 ecu plugs. You only need to wire 4 cables up and it’l start lol.

I can only suggest you get on Facebook and join some 1uz groups and start bothering them with questions if you need more help
