Ford 2.5 TDCi Duratorq Cam Belt Tensioner (How to slacken)

Any ideas how I loosen the tension on this cam belt:

not familiar with that engine but others with the same setup, slacken the bolt and insert allen key in the hex shaped hole, dont forget to insert locking pins first

The pulley is eccentric so slacken the centre bolt and move with allan key as member previous said and pin all cogs.

your tensioner is just below the cams so undo the nut with the blob of paint on and turn the tensioner slighty so it loosens the tension off enough for you to remove the belt.
like the others have said make sure you have locked the engine up in the right place as it may well move out of position when theres no tension.

If the old belt has stretched, I saw a good tip by Fuzz Townsend on Car SOS where he was replacing the belt.

He cut round the old belt, though the centre line, and removed the front half. Worked the new belt into place on the gears, and when he had it in place he simply cut off the remains of the old belt, allowing him to slide the new belt fully home. No need for locking bolts etc - job jobbed.

Yeh I saw that. good but always best to line then up first to ensure it is correct methinks.
