Just to put the other side of the argument, the reason for moving to 2.4GHz and digital is because it makes better use of the spectrum as we're short on space.if you're like me, you stock up on what works for you, while it is still available.
When I got back into radio controlled models, the technology had moved on from 27mhz when different manufactures equipment would work with one another, but since we have moved to 2.4GHz different manufacturers are no longer compatible and even modern gear from the same manufactures can be coded different ways so their receivers and transmitters dont work together. This has lead to me collecting parts that work well together as I run all my models on 3.7V which is is lower than most people use.
so I now have the following unused stocks :-
2 x transmitters (with multiple setups)
17x 4 channel receivers
21 x1amp speed controllers
15 x 2.7amp speed controllers
10 x 5amp speed controllers
9 x 20 amp speed controllers
7 x electromagnetic servo drivers (used to make custom speed controllers)
10 x 2amp switches (controlled by a r/c channel)
8 x 3G servos
10 x 9G servos
10 x 9G metal geared servo's.
I think that should keep me going for a bit, although one of the items on the list above is now obsolete and no longer available.
at least all these parts dont take up much space

Some of the 2.4ghz stuff is amazing and also the return telemetry stuff is getting quite cheep now.
