Local chap has bought one of these, I saw it today and it really is a thing of much beauty. Limited edition world-wide of 100 iirc.

He's bought the bare frame and intends building his own bike, with [and I think I've got this right 'cos I don't 'do' bikes] electronic gear-change with wi-fi, operated by stepper motors? The only things going from the frame to the rear of the bike will be the brake actuating cables, linked to hydraulic discs.

Ignoring costs [each to his/her own and it's his money, after all], it's a project I told him I want to see finished.......

Looks very, very nice. I imagine it will be a fairly stiff frame - inbetween Carbon and Aluminium flex wise. I think SRAM do wireless electronic gear shifting now. I have hydraulic disc brakes on my Cannondale Caad 12 and they are mega! It will still be a cheaper bike than some of the top end race bikes used in the Pro races.

they work great when they are working and to blead the brakes cost £25 for 1 kit

Mate is an avid cyclist and has several machines depending on what sort of ride he intend doing. Under the "ride to work scheme" he bought a £2000 carbon fibre bike - you can pick the whole thing up with one finger

If he's running hydraulic disc brakes then it should have pipe/tubing going to the brakes, not cables

I might have got that bit wrong, like I said, I don't 'do' bikes.

Or, it might have been that I was distracted by this Nissan GTR - 1,050 bhp with full Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, another monster [sorry for poor phone pics ]

Depends on the extent to which he personalises it I suppose - instant 'future collectable' I remember c. 30 years ago my nephews thought nothing of spending £800-1,000 on a bike, nothing changes.

I've had hydraulic brakes on a few bikes and they were great, I've had a cable operated brake on my bmx for about a month and it's already getting a bit stiff. Cables on my road bike have always been fine though.

I found disc brakes in push bikes have way to much flex in the wheels for my liking, I like old skool rim brakes.

Yeah I totally understand that but they are functional. To put expensive gear on that frame is pointless, it would be a terrible bike and next year that gear is out of date. The frame looks nice and would be good on a wall in a sports bar. Maybe I've got it wrong and it will appreciate in value but I doubt it if they cost £5k now.

My (3yo) daughter has a bamboo - laminate frame balance bike which is a thing of beauty that deserves to be hung on a wall. Old Skool leather saddle etc etc. It is extremely fragile though, we are on the second frame (laminate cracked round the seat tube) and every fall causes more splinters. The frame on the OP is fantastic and something I'd love to be able to afford but in my experience I'd probably want to hang it on the wall in my toys-filled man cave which I also can't afford!

I was thinking of having a go at making an "make it extreme" bike but using and old electric mountain bike I have as a donor for the power pack......
afraid my knee's are shot and can't pedal much......
after looking at the stuff u guy's are involved with I'll just shut up.....hahaha...
try looking on youtube for these guy's....they make all sorts.....
make it extreme ......gave me a few idea's......

5k for a bike frame is peanuts this days. I used to import Boulder Bikes in the 90s, His (Rich Williams) ti Defiant was £4750) for a bare frame and rear shock.

No it doesn't...

They bleed exactly the same as motorbike/car brakes and use dot4 or 5.1.

Every Hope brake I've seen uses the same - we're not talking about those common as muck hayes/shimano/avid abominations y'know

Got Hope discs on my hardtail and Avids on my full susser. Much prefer the Hopes- easy to bleed and have rebuilt them with new seals which was simple, theyre just like tiny car calipers. They have better feel too.

The avids are a closed system so you need two syringes to push/pull fluid through until there are no bubbles left in the system, bit of a pain, although the bleed kit was less than £15 from Epic.

Not sure about the need for discs on a road bike, can lock the wheels with well setup rim brakes, the tyre is the weak link, but would like to have a ride on a hydro disc equipped road bike. Can see they would be better in the wet, but I hate riding the road bike in the wet, I'll be out getting muddy instead
