For the motoring types - a bit of help if poss

Okay so it's nothing to do with welding, but since some of you are well into motor mechanicals I was wondering if you might be able to help me in my search for one of these



I've seen it variously described as a 'duckbill connector' and it's a push on connector to the fuel filter. My problem is that the vehicle was made in Brazil (it's an aircooled VW Bay) and I haven't been able to find anything like it in the UK, so far. There's quite a saga about the filter itself which I won't bore you with but I could do with finding a supplier, preferably in the UK.

It needs to push-on to a 5/16" (8mm) stub on the filter (A Sytec pro fuel injection filter), and fit to a 8mm or 10mm hose for the rest of it's journey. Or, a supplier of a fuel filter with 10mm push on type tails (because that is the size already on the van)

Incredibly I can get the filter with the correct lip on the tail, the removal tools, but no connector anywhere

Only a VW dealer in Brazil I'm sorry to say.

I have found them on an American website (where the picture came from) but their on-line purchasing system seems to be up the creek and I just wondered if there was somewhere in the UK.

When production moved out to Mexico (for the bug) and Brazil (for the Bay) the rest of the VW world sort of washed their hands of them. Sure, mine has VW all over it and the engine is still the old style aircooled one (updated with fuel injection and a catalytic converter) but the fuel filter is just one of the anomolies that has cropped up.

At worst I can re-plumb it and go down the hose and clips route but would rather go for the quicker and neater push-on fittings if poss.

Ah well, nearly time for cocoa, off to the trains tomorrow

Peugeot 106s (Gti certainly, perhaps all phase 2 models?) use push fit.

I have no idea if the diameters are the same but sure the 106 runs 8mm or 10mm fuel hose, and you could always run a 106 Gti fuel filter with it.

I have looked in the European VAG parts catalogue and there is nothing resembling that that I can see.

look on a zetec ford looks v similar to the clips that hold the fuel lines on the inlet manifold

Some early corsa's have similar fittings for the fuel filter, the connector itself isn't listed in the vauxhall epc, but you should be able to cut one off a scrapper.

Getting a bit philosophical here, but before finding the right answer I needed to ask the right question.

After many happy hours (perhaps not quite the right term) of Googling and reading and chasing various links I have now found this place, who market not only the complete Dorman Fuel Line Repair Kit (the right question) but it also looks as though they can supply the individual bits.

Go to Product Overview and then choose either the complete kit, or parts - yippeeeee !!!

Seems that nylon fuel lines are the way forward, no doubt time will tell, and thanks again folks

If i get a problem i just cut and rejoin at the nearest point with some suitable rubber hose, jubilee clips etc.

Just going this route as I want to make changing the filter a bit of an easier job in the future.
