Has anyone used one like this before?

If so did it keep the shaft nice and central when refitting the top mount on reassembly?

I have one of those in the ebay link, they are very good and quick to use some struts need a chock under them as the base plate is at an angle to the holder but its not a problem, this is what happens when those in the picture above lets go

I was stitched up before I bought it wasn't going to have that happen again, there are some pieces of your body you should never see in the flesh and the inside of my hand at that point I would rather it had remained a mystery

Does that set work on McPherson strut springs if the rod goes down the middle of the compressor ? We used a foot operated hydraulic one to do my Berlingo front spring but it had separate top fittings in different sizes not an adjustable one. It made the job easy.

I have one set like that for my Merc front springs but its no good for coilovers.

When I was doing that job above, as I was tightening one of the clamps it slipped and flew off and the spring jumped across the garage, luckily the other clamp held, but it could have ended much worse.

The Jag has active dampers which cost a fortune to replace and one is making a creaking sound so plan to change all four to standard shocks and don't want any injuries. I have a chance to pick up one of these second hand for £70 so will go for it.

yeah I would get it, you can earn your money back with it very quickly, especially at that price, when mine let go I thought that wasn't so bad, then I looked at my hand and saw the bones thing is it didn't hurt in the slightest the only part that did hurt was the local anesthetic straight into the wound after that no pain again

I have one of these, fantastic bit of kit. It's not cheap but it really makes the job easy/quick, I have a friend who had his jaw broken when a spring broke free.

Wouldn't fancy trying the big ratchets wouldn't fit snug due to the big ratchet and the small flimsy things might just snap
