Thats what you are supposed to keep isnt it....Its not easy.....for a start the only ones I know are near Luton on the M1I thought chevrons were 2 second apart on the motorway

I thought the two second rule was speed vs distance related, as in two seconds at thirty you would be a lot closer in distance to the car in front than two seconds at seventy.

Yes, isn’t that exactly the point??I thought the two second rule was speed vs distance related, as in two seconds at thirty you would be a lot closer in distance to the car in front than two seconds at seventy.

when I raced stockcars and it was raining we changed the back wheels and tires to smaller ones and over inflated them which widened the tread grooves and stopped aquaplaning
Yep sounds sensible. That was the point of my post though - I wonder how you measure this “3 seconds”. When I dropped to 2 on the gauge I was what seemed like miles behind the car in front. After 2.5 secs it blanked off. It could be that it is not that accurate of course (I assume it has a real time speed feed rather than using some default??)
So I concluded that we are all used to being a lot closer than we think - and as we are all not having accidents all the time maybe the 2 secs is outdated??
I always remeber it being 2 seconds - only a fool breaks the 2 second rule.

That happened to a mate of mine back in the 80s..........back end of his car was so low it unhitched....dodgy hitch as well......and he is a mechanicYou’d get more of a shock Al, if you looked in the mirror & it was missing
I often forget Im towing the Caravan (especially when I had a BMW 530d) and get a shock when I look in the mirror.........white van right up my a**e
They are, the distance is the equivalent of 1 second travel at the roads normal speedForgot to pull down the quote regarding the chevrons, I think they are just a set distance apart in an attempt to stop tailgating and spread traffic out a bit.
