Thanks to an awesome reply to my original question, I have now (hopefully) repaired the bumper I was working on.
There were a few small holes, fractures and cracks in it (it had seen better days), of which I covered with three layers of halfords finest fibreglass matting and resin.
Reflecting on it I was wondering if three chopped strand matting layers were enough? It feels totally solid now - not sure if im just being paranoid or not.
