focus wiper relay

b.i.l as got focus 2006 model that wipers have stopped working on.
aa told him it was motor as put new one on nothing then decided to ring me.

put power to motor using bench supply and it works as does old one.
have got 12v running to motor in car.
also rear wiper works if that means anything.
anyone know where relay is pls?

hes a complete waster but unfortunatlely still family

if you have power to motor then the only other thing is the wiper stalk assembly

Some cars have three lives, Two switched by the stalk/relay giving two speeds, the other is an ignition controlled live used to park the wipers. May have two fuses also so check the fuse box cover or manual.

if you look in the passenger foot well under the dash, if fitted there may be a felt cover help up with to clips at the front, squeeze the clips and remove the cover, twist the 2 black fastenings at the front and the gem module when fold down. depending on what type of module you have you may have a black square multi plug in the top left corner of the unit, remove this and check for water ingress and green corrosion on the pins, if not present then remove all the plugs and check (will need your raido code). very common problem on the focus is water leaking from the heater box onto the module causing wipers to stop working and non starts and central locking etc to stop working. I have changed loads but the usual fault it no front wipers. if this is the fault you need a new module which is around £300, would not bother stripping and cleaning inside, been there and it don't work. also ask for a splash guard to be fitted is now fitted to later years), its a half moon plastic guard that locates on a peg on the blower motor and bolts into the pollen filter housing, it redirects condensation and a/c water away from the module, don't fit this or leave it off when changing the pollen filter and the fault will happen again.

not saying this is deffo your fault but as being a ford tech this is the first easy thing I would check if I was looking at it before taking the scuttle panel it off,
