Fly tipped steel plate, 1000 x 1500 x 15mm

According to the law in England: "A person commits theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it."

So it is illegal to take anything that is fly tipped in England.

Anyone know what the law is in Scotland?

In a popular fly tipping location of a corner of an industrial estate close to me, two of these steel plates have been dumped. They have been there for about 3 months now.

Would make nice bench tops.

I'd been inclined to look after them just incase some ne'er do well should try to run them in for scrap, after all 15mm plate ain't cheap...and someone might be able to use it....

just make sure no ones watchin cos they may think u have dumped it I once went and took 12 meters of old conveyor belt that had been dumped the roll was that big it couldn't be moved I cut bits of in 3 meter lengths . nicked it in the gaffers van and it had his name on it

I would say that if they have been dumped then you are not “depriving” the land owners of anything

not legal advice but I was told by a policeman friend of mine that the 'points to prove' as they say is the INTENT to PERMANENTLY deprive. If you took them and put a notice up saying I've got them for safe keeping. If I don't hear from the owner in x days I'll dispose of them you're covered. It's what a few of the police forces are advising public in England to do with lost property - ad up somewhere and if it's not claimed it's yours. Of course the scum aren't exploiting this police advice at all!!

the council once left a steel plate outside my house for a week and I knobbled it went over the railway crossing with dog last nite and noticed the railway have left 3 -10 foot length of railway track next to my house pity its real heavy if id seen the lads id have asked them to drop one in the garden and squared em up for a few quid

I I know there keen but often the railways leave them next to the road next to my house for months on end and there just 2 heavy even for them

track well that would have been cut up and sold on
