Fly press table top

I'm upgrading from a tiny fly press to something larger (no. 5)

I've made the table from scrap and an old table I cut up. Total cost basically nothing apart from grinding discs and welding rods.

Before I tack the top down, can I just ask for opinions on whether it would be considered useful to include a hole below the fly press base. My smaller fly press is bolted to a wooden bench and I've never needed such a hole. It mostly gets used for folding sheet steel and assembly.

Can't hurt to have it there, as you say , you never know when you might need it. It'll be easier to make the hole now rather then mess around at a later date.

How about a hole with a couple of nuts tacked on the top. That way you can have a plate bolted underneath which you can remove if you need to.

Don't know what your applications are but maybe if you drop something in the middle you might want to extricate it or perhaps not have it fall through to the junk treasure pile underneath.

Best of both worlds then.

Could be actually, even quicker, drill a hole. Tack a hinge and a plate to cover the hole from the underside. Just use a simple latch to hole it shut, or a magnet.

Junk pile?

I've made the table strong partly because of the fly press weight and it was the scrap I had to hand, but also I'll be storing my best scrap on the two shelves. No need to bolt this baby to the floor.

I meant you've built a shelf underneath so obviously you're going to store something there. If you have just a hole you're tempting fate to drop something down into the pile of stuff on the shelf.

No. 5 is heavy enough for me. This is how I lifted mine.

I tend to agree.

After sleeping on it I've decided the only holes will be the ones to fix the fly press down.
