Flux Core Nozzles - Revisited...

My Parkside flux core welder's torch nozzle had gotten hot, crack and melted slightly. This got to the point recently where I had to discard it and fit a new one from eBay. I think these are made from a thermo setting plastic, but become brittle over time. The original Parkside one lasted a few months, whereas the eBay one started to scorch and become brittle asfter just a few minutes.

Yes, I know that I don't need a nozzle for flux core welding!

Has anyone got a suggestions for longer lasting plastic nozzles, please?

I just used a conventional shield on my SIP flux core - the same one for over 20 yrs.

Yes, it's thermosetting phenolic.

Have run a few 11lb rolls thru mine with the original shield.
Maybe the tip is too short ?

I've used the same tip with the previous nozzle. Also the stick out length is okay. I think the cheap Chinese eBay nozzles are just crap.

I think mine does not touch the copper tip.
Will have to check tonight.
Maybe counterbore a new one in the drill press back to the threads.
Would only have to be 1/16" gap or so.

After removing the unnecessary metal MIG nozzles to improve vision, I have sleeved two torches for use with fluxcore. I covered the gas diffuser and the threaded tip carrier, and this was done to prevent accidental shorts when used in constricted spaces. For one I used multiwall plastic underfloor heating pipe, and the other was just simple black heatshrink sleeving.

There's definitely a small gap between the nozzle and contact tip.

I see that Lincoln sells something similar. I'll see if a Lincoln one would fit?
