Flue liner

Whilst fitting the liner I noticed the cement around the top of the chimney was cracked and the pot is loose. So another job, anyone know what mortar mix I should use. And should I use any waterproofer in it.

You can buy 2kg tubs of pre mixed fire cement from Screwfix cheap might be an idea.

do you mean the old lime coated roof joists and batterns as it has a unique smell to it

and so does the plaster latte walls woods

as it goes it will be the cladding you can smell as it will have been coated with something

I think it is the cladding also as it smells and it darker. The joists do not look treated at all.

Just taken delivery of new 5kw wood burning stove with a 5 inch outlet and have decided to get a liner installed as well. The existing liner is a 8 inch concrete one that is set in a concrete "jacket approx 18 inches square. It's just been swept and has good access to roof etc. As I have been banned by SWMBO from going up on the roof it looks like I will have to employ a "man that can". Cost of materials looks to be in region of £250 to £500 depending on spec of stainless. I realise the question I want to ask is a bit like " how long is a piece of string" but can anyone give me an idea as to the possible installation charge and expected time needed ,assuming no problems. ( I know there will always be problems but I need to start somewhere. Appreciate any ,dare I say , sensible idea's.

We have done a few in the past, i normally charge £300 to drop a liner down and fit the cowl, might be an extra £50 if the top of chimney needs flaunching around the pots and we don't use red builders sand, only rough double washed as it sets like concrete.
