I've spent the entire day today fitting a flue liner. After my chimney fire last year I thought I had better fit one. Tied a rope on the end and climbed up the roof and pushed the liner in, the first 6ft was easy but after that down pull up push probably 3" a time. Then it got completely stuck, I had to cut a hole in the chimney stack in the loft to free it. Iam knackered from climbing up the roof and loft about 50 times but now sitting with a beer in front of my new 14kw woodburner.

as you have already suffered a chimney fire once
and that could be how you was burning the wood / material within the fire
ive got to ask how dry was your wood
and is that the new type with secondary air or is it just a bog standared stove
a note here also as you have found with your flue install it is difficult to clean make sure you burn your wood correctly or you could end up with another fire within your flue liner

I burn anything I get free. Worktops sheds kitchen cabinets conifers fence panels ash oak . And yes it's the new type with secondary air.

Same here. A mate of mine in Oxford has had two visits from the log police recently, spotted a few wisps of smoke from his stack and knocked his door to check on what he was burning, checked the moisture content of his stack and followed it up with a subsequent visit. Didn't know there was such a thing.

thats why your chimney set on fire
worktops full of glue
sheds are creosote
conifers are on the border as long as they are dry there fine for kinderling
back to your worktops and sheds both of these can line your chimney with creosote deposits more so if your fire isnt burning right or is too dampened down causing black smoke up your chimney
a new fast fire can light your flue rather easily as the flames can reach up inside of your flue

Please don't. Bloke across the road from us does this, the acrid smell gets into our house if the wind is right or his neighbour if not. He's had the council letter but his arrogance will not let him acknowledge the issue.
The smoke from furniture board is foul.

I have been burning some roof battern, roof joists and old cladding from a guy that did a loft conversion, I hate it, yes its free, yes it heats well, BUT it stinks I hate the smell in the garden

do you mean the old lime coated roof joists and batterns as it has a unique smell to it
and so does the plaster latte walls woods
as it goes it will be the cladding you can smell as it will have been coated with something
