Flue jab

Hi guys I had the flue jab on friday, on the doctors advice coz i'm am in the 'vunerable range' now I have had it for several years and never been affected by it, this year I feel like S***t, I am aching all over, I feel cold and feel like I have no energy etc, I feel like i have flue, but not the runny nose etc, I dont usually get lasting colds or flue, and apart from being knackered I am usually quite well. Today I have had to really hit the painkillers
Any body else feeling like this after the jab??

I had mine a few days ago, nothing but a slightly sore arm the day after.

Had a very sore arm for a couple of days, first time this has happened and had a few jabs over the years, got ours a few weeks ago. Grin and bear it it`l go away. Obviously as new strains of flu emerge the jab is modified to combat the new strains and maybe like others your system dont like this years contents.

My arm has been fine it is just the feeling of complete exhaustion and aching my bad back has gone from a usual 4-5 out of ten to a 9, I dont like taking painkillers but have had six this morning just to be able to move.

Ive only ever had it twice and both times I got flu, so I stopped having it. . Then I never had flu for over 10 years but had a bout twice in last 2 years. Im being badgered by the Docs at the moment, not for me but because the wife is ill.

Have had an flue jab, probably for past ten years, and never been affected by it or had flue but the one that was not so nice was the "once only" pneumonia jab. Very sore arm and under the weather for a few days.

My eightyfour year old father has had the flu jab without problems for years, this year he was really badly effected by it and was out of action for a good fortnight.

Strangely enough I've been having flu jab for probably 25 years. First because of work but now due to health issues puts me in the vulnerable group. Normally I end up with mild flu the next day but this year, for first time, no after effects.

The first time I had the jab I had very similar symptoms. Don't forget the jab is a "killed" version of the actual virus & it is possible to get all the symptoms of flu, albeit it in a milder form.
If you've ever had full blown flu you'd know the difference.
Apparently, The test for flu is if somebody dropped £100 next to your sick bed, if you can get out of bed to retrieve it you haven't got flu.

mother in law is complaining this year that after the jab she is not feeling great too

I have it every year as I had past illness and type 2 diabetic. People get ill because their immune system is working on the inactive content of the jab and your hence more likely to get something else while its pre-occupied. You cant get Flue from a flue jab, if you vunrable you should have it if your not you should have it and pay IMO (my wife gets a voucher from her work but wont use it as her dad gets ill after it but that's because he is a lot weaker as regards immune system to other infections, I have never been ill but I do get a stiff arm)

had mine 6 weeks ago as in the vulnerable group felt a bit ruff for a few days worse this year though than last year normally no bother

Both my lass & I have had the flue & pneumonia jabs as she is my carer. we felt a bit achey for 24 hrs then it was all OK .
We've had the flu jab t every year for the last 21 years as I'm a high risk disabled person .

However , we have a 12 yr old Munchkin who came home a few weeks after our jabs with a raging temp that saw her bedded down for three full school days & then a weekend of recovery .
Ten days later I go the same route but this time it goes down below like Mumps. The Doc put me on a course of antibiotics and the family jewels kept getting bigger. In the end I was so out of breath either from lugging them around or the fact that the virus had also got me in my lungs , I went back to the doc's .
I've only now just finished the second set of different antibiotics and Munchkin has again gone down like a pole axed pig.

Late this afternoon I called the doc at 16.45hrs as Munchkin has gone down again , he said bring her to the surgery straight away ..she had a temp of 103.5 oF .. Yep the problem is very similar to what I had , locally people are dropping like flies with this winter virus.

He sorted out several medications for her and advised us to drive back home with the windows open to help drop her temp by 2 or 3 degrees .
Poor little bugger , she was shivering like a Chivers jelly by the time we had driven the two miles back home , but yes her temperature was down to 101 oF & dropping nicely to 99 oF.

It looks like tonight is going to be a long night for me, as she is having to sit up in an armchair to stop gasping for breath . It should sort it out in about seven or so more hours for she will have had her third lot of medicines . My lass will do the day shift

Thankfully things settled down slipped her off to bed at 03.20 ish . .
Poor little "shugger " she was coughing up 5 p sized Green Gilbert's & Lenny Lemons ,both marbled with blood when she woke up ' 09.10 this morning .
By 15.00 today the antibiotic had kicked in nicely , she looked a waxy yellow instead of ashen grey . things have improved slowly since then .

Took her out in the car to what the locals call black mountain ( they tend to make mountains out of molehills ) , so she could see the meteor shower from a place with little light pollution . For she has been looking forward to tonight's " best of the year " display for several months .
Two hrs later after us seeing many white or red meteors streaking in from the South East ( ish ) we came home .. the coughing has almost stopped.

Looks like I'll get a peaceful nights sleep. I've been slowly sucking half a packet of ZUBES this last 12 hrs , things have really eased up for me .... though Alison seems to have caught it .

Looks like it's going to be chicken soup & sympathy for her over the next few days.
