Not quite a wood burner but.......
Our new househas a precast flue (the ones going up the cavity) which everyone is telling us means we can only fit a slimline "old fashioned looking" gas fire due to the limited depth of the fireplace
We want to do something much more modern by creating a box/false chimney coming out from the wall and fitting one of the modern flat glass style gas fires.
Local gas shops are saying "no way sir, can't fit anything in those pre cast flues apart from the 2 or 3 slimline trad models" combined with much sucking of teeth and general unhelpfulness.
So, neighbour had one fitted many years ago using a flue box and venting this into the pre-cast flue with an adaptor.
Any gas engineers/clever bods here know if this is still an option or have the updated gas regs ruled this out over the years? Seems crazy that I have a perfectly functioning flue but can't fit any (well very few) fires to it?
Cheers,
MM
