Flow Meter with Reg

Reading some of the threads on here and still a wee bit confused. I have just purchased a 0-25 LPM flow meter from Weldequip. I take it this fits to the reg which fits to the gas bottle?

The flow meter can not just fit directly to the gas bottle?

The one that i have purchased does not seem to have the same fitting at the bottom of the flow meter??

What do you have so far? The fitting out of the flowmeter should be the same as the fitting out of the regulator (assuming a full size regulator).

That would fit most full size MIGs. The hobby MIGS have a gas connector designed for disposable bottles - you need the adapter hose to connect them to a full size regulator.

I have a Sealy 150 Mighty Mig Gas/Gas-less. I tried gas-less with a fluxed core wire that came with it but it was like Metal Mickey had sneezed all over the place!!!

I decided to try a CO2 disposable bottle and have discovered via reading posts that they are as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

I want to use either CO2 (my landlord said he would sort me out) or Argoshield Light.

I have no regulator but i do have a flow meter.

Can you point me in the direction of where to get an adapter hose to connect it to a full size regulator please?

Not strictly true ...co2 disposables last about an hour....ar/co2 about 8-10 mins....difference is co2 is a liquid ......pub gas i pay £15 and lasts ages..but it does require a proper regulator ,flowmeter is nice but you can use the cylinder without ......weldquip stocks the regulator and hose adaptors to change from disposable to pub gas ....if you get on with co2 as disposable then upgrade , some people hate co2 ,i've used it for years on car welding ,as i grind most of the weld away ....make sure you and the welder work well on co2 before spending £40 on a pub gas reg would be my advice

I am currently trying the CO2 neat. Would you advise that i try the Argon/CO2 mix disposable as well to see how i get on with it? I assume that the Argon/CO2 mix is very similar to the Argoshield light from BOC.

If wanted the option of Argon/CO2 mix or CO2 then would i need to invest in 2 different regs?

If you can weld with co2 and thin plate ,then using argon/co2 results in smoother profile to the weld and a much more stable arc so is easier to use .....Gas choice also depends on what you welding imo....if most of your welding is on cars or not on display...co2 is cheap and normally non rental .....argon is more expensive but can be found non-rental (adams gas etc) and would be my choice if welding is to be seen or perhaps sold ?....you can buy adaptors i think its cheaper to change a co2 reg to work with argon than to change agon to co2....contact Steve(weldquip) he could quote you happy ....agosheild light/heavy and cougar/ferromax are company names for ar/co2 mix....did i answer everything ?

Everything apart why it is that my wife can loose anything I ask her to keep safe!!!

Shielding gas info wanted

While you are all discussing shielding gas, could I ask for opinions on the suitability of Argshield Universal for welding 20swg - 16swg mild steel?
It's just that I have discovered that HSS Hire shops will supply an X size refill of Universal for under £38(inc VAT) - which seems like a good price to me. Unfortunately they don't have Light available.

I use the equivalent of universal and it is fine on thin metal. It is all we use here in t he States.
