Hi,

After taking the carpet out of my disco1 this is what i found.

Does anybody know if i can buy a drivers side floor pan?

I've taken all the carpet out and the rest of the floor is ok.
I can post pics tonight if you like.

The linked panel should sort out the two holes in the sill shown in the picture, remember to replace any rotten stiffeners and inner sill components that you discover () when removing the old sill.

that panel is sill and half the floor have a good look at your sills unless they have been done already if they have the plastic covers on remove them and clean underneath

I put a screwdriver into the hole by the door and pocked it about a bit, it's all strong metal.
Should I cut out holes in floor and replace with one large plate?
Is it ok to weld a large plate over the top of the original floor?
What thickness metal should I use?

If you weld a plate over, the rot that is there will eat its way towards the edge of the plate and eat the metal you have welded too. Expect it coming apart anytime soon.

It needs to all be taken out and done again if you are planning holding onto the vehicle for more than a year.

Looks like some work has done been done in the area before - where I have highlighted red it apears to have been patched (not to my standard) and sprayed - the welding is not so good and I would have expected if somone done such a job for them to at least whack a load of seam sealer in to hide the shame, the area in the green all needs to come away - from the looks of it, their is a form of metal undernearth (chassis and outrigger? just guessing?) and I would want to make sure what was below the rot was good too. I would buy repair sections if available or do the whole panel and do it right.

I would not worry about it, it is a Disco. Was at a place that was doing some work on the inner rear arches this week on a Disco, the owner had taken it back 10 times to get a ticket before paying some one to do the job - he seemed to have the idea it was OK to weld to lace work - the whole back end was as roten as a tramps after eating a turnip vindaloo.

Thank you for helping.
Just put the new tank guard on the disco.
Looking at the underneath its all been under sealed and a new rear floor.

Here is a pic of the passenger front foot'well the rest of the car is the same its only the drivers side that seems rotten.

Hopefully tomorrow.
I may need some instruction on how to remove the sill cos i don't want to start hacking at the wrong part.....lol

Started work.

Here goes,

I started work today on the disco floor once the rain stopped.

I investigated the underside of the floor and went about bashing with a small hammer and screwdriver, the inner sill did not look good (well that's what i think it is) and i decided it was going with the floor.
Using my small spinner i cut along the seam of the floor then with a dremel cut around the brake pipe area and finnish the corners.
The out rigger support was not too bad but once again i decided it had to go.

The Rock sliders are welded onto box section, iv'e hit them with a hammer and they are solid.

Except for the bit in the photo the rest is solid so i may try and patch before going on to the next stage.

Having said that i need to take out the passenger section of the floor.

Its a bit of a daunting task for a first job to learn welding....lol

I'm not sure but i hope to take the second part (rear section) of the floor out today.
I will investigate once its out.

Hi octo,

Here is the second stage of my disco project.

It took about four hours to carry this stage as i was pondering on how to go forward and be safe at the same time. I needed to do some heavy hammering to cut away some bits with a bolster not being able to gain access with a power cutter.

giving this to myself because once again iv'e managed to take my toy apart, that's the easy bit. NOW how does it go back together.

Pictures of the floor cut away.
Cut the floor away first then realized after reading another thread on here that i should have drilled out the spot welds......so i went back for another go and drilled away.

I'm off to get some primer now.

I managed to get my hands on some 100x60x4mm box section and capped the ends.

It's a shame the gas ran out during welding the second end cap.

ground off then primed.

I fertinised the out riggers after sanding.

Then primed.

Then undersealed.

I gave another coat of primer to the new outer sill.

I know there needs to be a lot cleaning up of the metal (whats left of it) but i could not resist a dry run of locating the inner sill, box section and rear wing return.

The inner sill is just visible behind the box section. I shall put a thin rubber isolation barrier between the ali wing return and the box section when fitting.
