Floor pan repair

Currently performing some repairs to the floor on my daily driver. Rots been cut out, a repair section formed and welded in.

I was just wondering how people suggest I go about protecting it against the elements. I have prepped the area with a knot wheel, then coated with etch primer.

Should I seam seal around the repair and then stone chip it?

Also interested to know of a good way to dress welds. I spent some good effort on the repair patch and crafted it to match the contours of the floor panel. As a test I have carefully ground some of the weld down and if I went all the way the repair would be invisible. However it’s very slow going and requires a lot of careful gentle grinding. Is there anything better suited to doing this?

Get yourself a flap disc. Great for dressing welds and blending into original panels

I normally knock the top of the weld off with a grinding wheel then attack with a flapdisc or sanding attachment on the grinder to blend,never used etch so I'll let someone who has answer that question

Ahh should have said I was carefully using a grinding wheel to take most of the weld off and then gently griding away with a flap disc to get smooth but it was damn awkward.

Can you get grinding pads for a die grinder or similar, need something I can get into small spaces.

James I've used flap wheels in a die grinder to good effect ,although 3m have some Roloc ?...discs which could be better....here are the flap wheels linky.....not recommending just shop around

Have a look for 'Roloc' fittings: I have two sizes; 50 & 75mm.
I recently used some for the same purpose as you on my floor pan. Alot more controllable in dressing down welds etc..
I found the fittings were very expensive on their own: I found a seller on an auction site that supplies both sizes, and various sanding/conditioning disks.

Just realised that I have 25 & 50mm's, not 75mm

Tungsten carbide burrs are great on die grinders. You can get them in to corners, they eat through steel, and don't wear out like grinding discs
