Flooding

t'rusty duck mentioned flooding in a post earlier on. Hope there wasn't too much damage. Has anyone had trouble with all this rain we've been having?

We've only had a barn flood, and that's mostly because the drain seems to be backing up. Will have to sort it before the rain at the weekend. The photo taken this morning after just 10 minutes of heavy rain.

The only trouble I've had with the weather is a couple of events I would've gone to this weekend have been cancelled. Apparently people don't like parking classic cars on mud. And I have got wet a few times picking my daughter up from school.

I suggest looking at the "animation" link. It's in German, which doesn't help me, but if you go to one of the pull down menus and pick a title (there are a couple with rainfall and cloud cover), then drag your cursor over the hour+ column on the left, you'll see what you're in for, all in moving colour!

You can bring up up to 4 charts at once, and animate them all together. Exciting!

22 degrees and the suns out... not had any flooding round here

It had been sunny here (suffolk) recently, today has seen 3 or 4 stormy downpours.

I'm working at my parents new house, the grounds of which are now 3 inches deep in sloppy mud

My home in sheffield is on a decent hill, so it's ok, but they've still got power rationing/sharing and most of the east of the city is a mess.

I've decided not to go to the big Stars and Stripes yank car show at Tatton Park tomorrow as the forecast is pretty dire. Wouldn't have been taking the chevy as its not MoT'd and I don't care about mud but I don't fancy spending the day wet through.

Oh, another thing. My dad's car (04 plate Renault Laguna diesel) got written off in a flood at his work's depot in Ilkeston. Apparently, EU legislation states that because it was submerged above a certain level, all the liquid systems (brakes, coolant, fuel, etc) have to be replaced, as well as obvious stuff like seats and carpets. So it's uneconomic to repair. Still, the inn-sewer-ants are paying out, so it's a hassle, not a disaster.

It's a shame, really, as he had it from new, did hardly any mileage (it had about 14k on the clock) and kept it immaculate, but the insurance only pay out market value, so he's having to buy a second-hand car of similar age, which means a search to find one in the same condition.
