Flat drive belt sources?

Hey gang,
I have a Lorch plain turning lathe with 3-speed pulleys connected by an old, kinda dry leather belt with a joining pin in the middle. I've been thinking I'd like to replace it for a one-piece rubber belt to increase torque-before-slip.
The length is 1430mm and, from memory, it's about an inch wide. The only ones I could find of that length were only 1mm thick and around £55. Seems like a lot for only 1mm of rubber.

Anyone have ideas on another source?

Give A C belting a call, the owner is very knowledgeable, tell him the sizes and what it's for and he will advise/supply what you need.

I'd be looking for some flat belt, even with grooves, like what runs modern vehicle power steering , alternator etc.

No sooner did I make my post that I had the idea to use a low-profile poly-V belt. I came across one on Autodoc which is the right length and 10 ribs wide (which I think is about correct) for £16.80+postage.

Thanks Bourbon. I checked them and Bearing Boys first, but £60-80 felt like too much for a 1mm thick belt.

I've come to the conclusion, as obviously have most automotive companies, v belts are rubbish, compared to flat belts.

I run a fleet of a dozen hire boats, we change them fairly often.

You're talking about V belts, not poly-V belts, right?

I changed the leather belt on my South Bend to a automotive auxiliary belt. Cut it to length, tapered the ends and glued them together with Loctite All Plastics Super Glue-3. So much better than a leather belt.
On my South Bend 9A with Under Motor Drive I have to splice the belt, if You can use an endless one just measure what length you need and google is your friend.

Yep, looks like automotive poly-V belt will be the solution here. I found the right one and even some EOM numbers, so I'm hoping I can pick it up locally from a Euro Car Parts branch.
