Flat battery helmet flash

Just tried arc welding. 130amps.
Batteries flat in my optrel clear.
Quite dazzled.
Will I get arc eye or will the filter still have done it's job?
Suffer with dry eyes overnight as it is so a little worried.
Cold warehouse and no sun. I should have realised.

Good helmet the Optrel Crystal 2. At least you can change batteries easily.
Uses 2x CR2032.
My Powcon is welding very sweet with 7024 rods.

IIRC the glass handles all the damaging UV light that causes arc eye, and the shading just stops you from being blinded.

That’s my understanding - the UV filtering is constant, the dimming is for comfort only.

A looooong time ago AvE demo’d that even crap sunglasses block UV effectively so I’d be poor form if your welding mask was worse than one dollar sunglasses

So the batteries weren't spot welded in,unlike the last one i've just chucked away

Cheap SIP £40 helmet, no mention of replaceable batteries, but they are, just like Fizzy's. BTW the grinding setting (if you have one) also turns off the battery. Striking the arc induces full dark anyway.

Well my eyes are fine thankfully.
The Crystal 2 is brilliant but it should be at that price. I bought it for about £200 but they are over £400 now
