Hi. I am new to this forum but just have a quick question, who someone with more experience than myself can answer. Do Zirconia Flap Discs last longer than normal Flap Discs ? This big company on ebay are selling what look to be high quality Zirconia Flap Discs for a great price (http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/smith-and-arrow__W0QQ_armrsZ1). Has anyone tried this particular brand (Smith & ARROW) as their feedback looks unreal. No-one has left them negative feedback in about 5000 sales.

Hi lenotravis, smith and arrow are registered on this forum, read through this thread for more information, Zirconium disks are more hard wearing than aluminium oxide, and cost slightly more too, usually they are recommended for stainless steel, but are fine for use on mild steels as well.

We use zirconium on everything. Lasts noticeably longer i find.

I took part in the Smith and Arrow trial a while ago. That was only cutting discs. To sum up my conclusion- Good quality, not the best i have ever used, but excellent value for money. Id reccomend them to diy users without a doubt.

3M probably, but they're one of the dearest i expect.

Sait are a good product, I usually use Abracs, I did buy some S&A flapdisks, the abrasive is as good as any Ive used, but there could be a bit more of it.
Look at this stack of 5 Abracs compared with 5 S&A, although for what they cost no real complaints, you get what you pay for.

I used to make st/stl bezels for door entry systems using 25mm mill finish angle did a back to back test with Jim Bimbi the sait rep. against the 3m roloc zirc disc including a change of disc. The 3m lasted around 1/3 more and is obviousley a lot faster on change over.

Same here. Was a time when i would only use them on ali coz of the price!
Try the X-Mop from Anchorfast, they're good

I've been using some ceramic coated flap discs recently...they are supposed to last longer than zirconium.....but only been doing a bit of bodging with them so can't really tell yet.
