flange heatsink

helo,one question if someone have try it
I'm tig welding 5mm thick stanless flange and when i finish the weld the flange is not straight any more,i found a piece of aluminium 25mm thick and i'm looking to screw the flange on it and use the aluminiun as a heatsink.will it work??

Possibly. Definatly make a good heatsink but all welds shrink as they cool, a heatsink won't help with that. Regarding distortion... geometry of the the part, placement of the welds and weld order are going to play a large role. Sometimes pre heating the part helps- the welds are 'quenched' less by the surrounding material

Need more info on the job at hand. Pre-setting the flange or rearranging things (if possible) to place welds nearer to the neutral axis will help more than a heatsink
