Flange for a Honda

I think I want a flange, anyway... Not being one to let the grass grow under my feet, Im trying (again) to fix a mower.. Its a dirty great Ransomes 27 inch cylinder mower so Ive decided the 5hp Honda GX200 I have spare would be ideal for the job. Picture shows the bit I need, still attached to the old villiers engine. It wont come off and its the wrong size anyway. (Would anyone like an old Villiers engine?)
The output shaft on the Honda is 3/4", has a keyway and what I think is a M8 fine thread. it doesnt need the cog for the kickstart. where might I find a fitting like that? Googles no help till I know what its called...

Before you go too far, what was the power and rpm of the Villiers engine? Ie does the speed and power match?

If I understand it properly (which is always a bit doubtful) you might want to look for a shaft coupling (or prop shaft coupling, or flanged shaft coupling)
eg Something like this??
Although having seen the price of them it might persuade you to make the Villiers one fit - if you can remove it could it be modified?

I dont feel quite as daft for not knowing whats its called now.. Thats kind but seems a lot of faff for you. I will shout if I cant find one off the shelf though. Thanks

Yeah, kind of like them. I was expecting given how many Hondas are out there running all manner of stuff that this would be a bit easier to find. Problem with the villiers one is the hole in it is 1" and I need 3/4" and Id rather not lop the end off the crank just to press it out.

That coupling is on a tapered shaft. It should come off with a suitable BIG hydraulic puller. Probably with a large bang when it lets loose.

Yes, it should.. I dont have a hydraulic puller but I have tried several non hydraulic ones. and heat, lots of heat, and soaking in diesel, WD 40, 3 in 1 oil. and all manner of percussive encouragement. and it's still on, and still the wrong size.

You could get a taper lock flange for your new engine but you’ll still have to drill it to suit whatever it attaches too

I do quite like a taper lock. Sure i can mange to drill it, if I can find something to fit...

I think you may have sussed it. The 6 holes are even at the right centres so just need three of them opening up a little. Have a house point and the promise of beer should we meet up!
