Probably one for @8ob and other 'gardening ' Types.
Got this here flail mower ,it's seen a few stones go thru it and the hammer flails are a little battered , can these be dressed up with a grinder ? You can't see much of the flails in the dark sorry
We never used to do anything with the flail mowers on the council, they would have been same again first time out after dressing and soon there would have been nothing left to dress.
We always sharpen those types of flails
J flails are disposable but those type can be sharpened. Although what you have there by the looks of it are already sharper than when we have sharpened them so I would say you have a fair amount of use out of them yet
I never sharpen flails. They don’t “cut” as such. This mower/mulcher was new in 2005, has beaten down thousands of acres of grass and small trees, pulverised rocks, stones, concrete blocks, a wheelbarrow, a water trough, has done its share of rotovating and ground levelling but still it leaves a good finish.
I would sharpen them, better to buff them up little and often especially on a small tractor. Also worth taking them off to do them because its quicker, gives you a chance to check the bolts/spacers for wear.
