Usually they have the size stamped on the head or at least the ones we use do. If it says 8 then use 8mm etc. If the material is soft though one size smaller is sometimes better.
t bolts or masonry screws are not actually rated for load bearing under building regs, bit will be fine for what you want... seems wrong but is so right, great things
