Fixing damaged threads

It is simple enough to sort either filing a chamfer, as Badger suggested, or just using a triangular file to open the deformed threads up. Depends how far along the thread and how badly you've deformed the threads as to how much work you'll need to do. You don't need to get a thread file though, unless you want to have one to hand for future use. I've always managed to easily sort any threads out, from small BA threads upwards, with nothing more than a triangular file. Just do the filing by eye to start with, and then fit and hand tighten the nut, (a new one if you think the original may be worn), to let you know where you need to tweak your filing. You'll feel if there's any remaining thread deformation requiring attention.

Another thing to look out for is just because you have the nut on the threads you want it to be about halfway, just having it on the first couple of threads will still cock the tread to one side if you give it a hefty wallop,and I would still use a wood block or even better a dead blow mallett to wallop it with.......

The best way to knock out a drive shaft is with a very heavy drift, I turned one out of a heavy chisel, if you can get one machined with a nipple on it all the better to hold it central in the lathe centre drilling on the cv, for when it disappears into the cv but I always wire brush and coppa slip the shaft before it goes back in.

i just smack the nut with a big lump hammer


some safts are glued in so you have to wallop teh hell out them to make them move few tes had to use a sanding disk on the grinder to remove the bulge on the end of said shaft

I tend to press driveshafts out, using 2 legged puller on the drive flange. If its tight enough to be a problem, you will have to dress the thread slightly after you've finished beating it out, with any kind of hammer.

Tried the big chisel approach too, but vibrates alot even in gloved hands, and I'm constantly aware of the vibration that wheel bearings and abs sensors in particular are being subjected to.

This is my drive shaft pusher /brg puller it will do transit w/brgs without a press
if that wont shift it its stuck!

Have got one of those kits with the 7/8" thread and different sized plates/tubes for the wheel bearings, works really well - although I have just wrecked the thrust bearing working on a stubborn IS200 front wheel bearing.

My press is still a work in progress haha, one day I will make a project thread, when it finally begins.
