Having grown up in an area with soft water, and now living in an area with hard water, I really love my softener... but it's stopped working.
It's the conventional type with a resin bed which is regenerated with brine, but during the brine rinse it's taking virtually no liquid from the salt tank. There is no guidance on servicing in the instructions. I'm thinking of trying to set it up to do a reverse flush when in the brine rinse position. Not very optimistic, but softeners are damn expensive to buy (for what they are).
The machine is a no-name brand off ebay and only 2-3 years old. My last machine was from Wickes and lasted 30 years, but Wickes no longer do them.
Anyone got any experience or insights? The brine gets sucked in to the resin tank by what I think you'd describe as a "water ejector pump", i.e. a bit like those vacuum pumps which connect to a water tap in school chemistry labs etc. The water supply is set at 4 bar pressure.
