Fixing a bodge.

Priced this one up back in the summer.
Remove shower and raised floor. replace tiled floor
Remove boxing behind toilet and route new pipes for bath.
Cheap price but they knocked the tiling off. Then quibbled about the price of bath. Extra wide to overlap exsisting tiles. Got fed up and binned it.
Get a call November.
Can I fit there bath. Sorry booked till mid jan.

3 weeks pass and I recieve a very apologetic email asking if I could put this right.
Nice surface mounted pipes that blendbin well.

Turned up to look found sink leaking.
Where they pushed pipes through they were putting the waste under tension. Oh and the waste kit wasnt sealing.

Bath wasnt draining as had a back fall.
Badly sealed and leaking through the taps. Found today they had been drilled too big and rubber washers were doing nothing.
When the old shower screen was removed they ripped tiles off the wall too and filled with lightweight wall filler.
Also used light filler to patch in the 40mm gap between tiles on the floor and the bath panep. (Why my bath was oversized.)

Completely stripped today. Pluming tomorrow. (AAs expected old bath feeds were hiden under the toilet boxing so easy enough.
Then fully tiling it.

Doing there kitchen in april too. Think they learnt a lesson.

Final comments on there workmanship.
New comp fittings were installed with large amounts of plumbers mate and ptfe tape
Blocked shower nozzles as its restricting all the joints and breaking down.

It does.
No bad feelings on my part. They know and have learnt from it.
Worst part is my price was very reasonable.

They wereHighly recomended on trustatrader apparently.

Not by much.
Now they have had to fully replace the tiling so more than paying twice.

Easier for me to do a full rip out anyway so im happy.

I've had the call but never actually been back as I always say it sounds like it needs ripping out and starting again

The only reason these guys exist is because people pay them, customers need to say sorry boys its not right. Fix it, or I aint paying.

But also need to learn to make it clear what the finished job should look like before it starts.

I used to get the odd estimate for paint stripping which wasn’t picked up on. Usually it was followed several months later in one of two ways.

The only local competition got the job and I’d get the call to fix his work. Or “the person we got gave up half way through”, never an admittance of a diy attempt gone wrong.

Either way, they were charged full cost to fix, as I had to go back over all the work to finish it properly.

No worries there. Kitchen arrives in april and needs fitting.

stripping compression fitting for reuse today and found half of them werent even tightened enough to stop the pipe twisting in the fitting.

Looks like they thumbed a dollop of plumbers mate in the hole, wrapped ptfe around the threads and gave them a cursory tighten.

Fracture matting and floor laid this afternoon. First fix plumbing (excluding shower hasnt arrived yet) and stripped out the old shower electric feed.

Tiles on walls tomorrow. no pics. covered in tile adhesive by the time i left. Hate tiling small floors. just had enough room to stand where the baths going and hop out the door.

took 2 lads 3 days to remove shower screen and shower base, fire in a few crappy pipes fit the bath and panel and seal... she wouldnt tell me what they charged. guessing it was a chunk more than my price.

2 days in so far. tiling should be finished friday midday and grout and second fix monday.

Why turn work down. They weren't nasty just trying to save a few quid and didn't listen to advice.
The humble email apologising and seeing the state it was left in swayed me. My wife laughed her **** off when I read her the email. Nice gal...

Be a nice bathroom when I'm done and will have a kitchen and follow on work in the future too.
