If your able to measure the gap in the tool holder and the size of the inserts, I can compare with some decent ones I have.
In theory the tool holder you got is the better type, and likely the inserts that are faulty. £15 in other shops would just get you the holder.

Detail model of product? I have sent them the eBay item number which they should have known as it was the actual item page that I contacted the seller on to complain, and a photo of the actual tool with the tip stuck half way in the groove.

I'll look into doing that then you can maybe tell me the suitable insert numbers, although maybe @BrokenBiker can tell me that as he has the same set. There aren't any numbers on the inserts or the box that I received from the seller.

The Chinese sellers on eBay always sound like that...it's the 'dear friend ' bit that gives the game away ..... As well as the too sharp practice of offering a % refund for an item that doesn't work as intended. I'd just expect and get a complete refund, and that might just teach the seller to have more care in selling... (eBay will always side with the buyer despite any pathetic excuses they might come up with)
However there is lots of good Chinese stuff on eblag (and Amazon too) and you get excellent return rights on both - unlike Ali, which takes longer, and has loads of hoops to jump through for returns....

Never really had any problem with them myself. There can be occasionally be "lost in translation" type conversations with their customer service, but Ali' seem very on the ball, in my experience.
Exactly that @MattF , I had a dro from them that went duff, I complained and they said to return it, they had my money back the minute it went in the post.
Only prob there is they don't take paypal which is my prefered way to pay nowadays.You could probably save yourself a lot of grief by ordering from someone in the UK....

I agree with teaching them a lesson but for me, getting that parting blade holder was worth what I paid for all, so to be fair I didn't refuse 20% refund.

Good to hear the positives....I just had one bad time with their customer service which dragged on and on with a different service rep every time - it was the only time I ever had to 'talk' to them, and yes, it was sometimes translation problems I'm sure. But it all took a long time...10 days or maybe more for the goods and then several weeks of yo-yo mixed communications. But other stuff I've had no probs with..
AliExpress tips fit the holder they sent me and the one from the eBay seller, you can see in the photo the first tips I got are much bigger. Just need to find a bigger holder to match the bigger tips, not going to be easy as there are no numbers on them, nor on the box. Not to worry, maybe I can braze them on to something that will make some sorta lathe tool.
