Christ on a bike! Sulphur powder is scary and then some. The tang wasn't really long enough so the BiL gas welded on a bit of M5 thread I rustled up:
A coat of cold galv and smear if grease in the thread:
A recess in the end with a 13mm flat wood bit:
Drilled right through with a 5mm long series drill. Packed with sulphur powder. Tried MAPP gas but couldn't get the tang hot enough. The BiL got it to cherry red with the oxyacetylene and I pushed it in being careful as the tang wanted to bend. It hissed, spat and flames shot out but it "burnt" a nice tapered hole.
