I've got a few heads that I'd like to use on my Omnimill, is there an easy way to mount them on a 3MT machine? The hole in the heads is 16mm and also 22mm in the larger cutter.
If your ok with a welder and have a knackered mt3 drill kicking about you can always cut the drill section off and weld a blank to the morse taper. Machine in the lathe to suit.
Other option is just machine a morse taper arbor from scratch, morse tapers are about 1.5 degrees but you can clamp a drill in the Chuck and clock the compound slide to the taper, I’ve turned countless drills down a taper size using this method and provided your finish is reasonable it will bite into the taper no bother
One thing I recommend is having a retainer to prevent the tapers disengaging. A little locking arrangement where the drill drift goes will do but I’ve had success in the past with pinning through the middle of the taper.
I have done the above in MT2 for a fly cutter on my little mill. One thing I would suggest is to drill and tap the taper for a drawbar while you can turn it around and hold it securely.
Connect milling arbor slot : 27mm. Holder end thread : M12. Drawbar-Thread: M12. 1x MT3-FMB27 Morse Taper. Improve the hardness and endurance of the surface. Surface more smooth, feel comfortable, appearance nice.
