Nice job but its seriously over engineered. You need to take your weight seriously when I was driving wagons I used to dread seeing vosa or having to deliver near weigh bridges. Even if it just looks heavy they'll pull you and go over your vehicle like its having an mot

Thanks for the advice. Is there anyway I can get the thing weighed once I have finished so I can get an idea of the remaining load capacity?

They is a few conflicting stats as regards to the load capacity due to the van being lower than the pickup but I think it has to be at least 550KG, maybe 670KG is the stats are right.

I expect to loose 200KG tops as I have a toolbox to add yet. Would be nice to know how much It weighs though. I would be happy will 200KG load capacity.

Just take some scrap in and they'll weigh it for free...

I don't think you will have any problems unless you have dangerous loads or the back end is dragging on the floor.

I see loads of Double Cab pickups towing trailers with tractors on out here when some of these pickups can only tow 2000-2500kg legally.

If your 1kg over when weighed your liable to been done if vosa are in that kind of mood. I think many people don't know that double cabs have rubbish tow capacity

Had a bit of aluminium left over from the 2 sheets I bought to line the bed and dropsides so decided to make use of it whilst I am waiting for my frame to be powder coated. I got a spool gun for my welder a few months, and after intial practice havn't put it to use, so thought this would be an ideal use for aluminium mig welding practice.

I made a little box to go underneath the bed where there is a small gap. Out of the aluminium checker plate. As I remembered from previous attempts, welding aluminium is a lot more difficult than steel. I am fairly happy with the results, it is certainly to TIG pretty but it looks fairly conistant and is certainly strong enough for what I need. Certainly more practice required.

Finally finished the frame. Got the removable H frame section on the back as I needed to collect two 4 metre scaffold planks. Got nice set of ratchet clamps and strops to finish it off. Few pictures below.

Why not make a little collapsible light frame out of tubes that slip together , like a low ridge tent for the top and you could get a cover made that could be stored in the tool box, then in minutes you would have a little weatherproof van in case it ever rains (which it never does in this country of course).BTW which spool gun did you buy ? as I am interested in one, and have been looking at various.

Finally used the van for a steel run. Assembling a sort of all year round gazebo so collected the cut stock in the van.

I didn't this time. The time I collected stock without the frame on they thought it was pretty amusing lol.
