My great Aunt was from Hawick and I could understand her no problem but then she had a quite posh accent, not as posh as @skotl Morningside accent though

I dunno. One of the guys in our Aberdeen workshop needed a translator.
I could just manage to understand him once I got my ears tuned in, but I remember being on a course with him. First thing was to go around the room introducing yourself, and we reached the Aberdonian. I can still remember the tutor sat against his desk, staring into space rocking slightly with his brain obviously trying to understand what he'd just heard, and after the guy stopped speaking there was a several second delay before the tutor even realised he'd stopped speaking, at which point he quickly moved onto the next person to avoid any more interactions. I'm pretty sure the tutor never understood a single word he said for the duration of the course.
