That's exactly what it is. Anyone that needs to be travelling is getting it paid for. Travelling spreads it. Nobody else should be travelling.

Traveling spreads it? Which is why the U.K. govt have left our airports open for all and sundry to fly in and out through 90% of this covid epidemic? I have a friend who flew in from China, in April of last year, not a word was said, not a test was done, not a temperature was taken on arrival.

Same guy has flown back and forth to Spain a half dozen times during the remainder of last year, while we were all locked down tight being good little sheeple, not a mask in sight in the airport, or the planes, no checks, no questions.

I do have to 'smile ' when the airline companies whinge about the shutdown in air travel when they were the main cause of the virus spreading so quickly. However I do sympathise with those workers who are in financial difficulties in the airline industry but they are not the only ones.

Rather than the fear of being racist I reacon it's more to do with the financial ramifications and the lack of government " experience" in dealing with the problem. Don't forget that the only thing that politicians are any good at is conning people into voting for them after that it all a question of sticking a wet finger up in the air and seeing which way the wind is blowing. Or am I being just a little bit unfair?

All this lack of foreign travel is making UK holidays more expensive and everywhere will be packed in August (School hols)....Im booked for Cromer but dont expect to move far from the van. Taking the grandkids so i hope the weather is good so we can go on the beach most days. Theres already shortages of gas. Caravans and Motorhomes seem to have gained a covid tax....mine is now worth more than I paid for it 6 or 7 years ago.....its crazy......I wanted a new awning (pump up one instead of poles).........took me a full day of phoning round to get one (plus the Yorkshiremans discount) and it is a top of the range job, so not cheap.

Yes, you do, according to the latest info I can find. Which makes a mockery of the whole ‘covid vaccine passport’ idea.

Your destination country could also insist on it regardless, which is what Canada has said in my daughters case.

I’ve heard about 15 differing versions of what the vaccines does, so it would be interesting to hear the actual facts from the manufacturer themselves.

And of course, there are different vaccines that work in totality different medical ways. At least one merely prevents the victim from suffering the symptoms, from what I have read.,

I mean it's easy, it's a vaccine, it makes your body respond much faster and more effectively to fighting off the virus. Doesn't stop you catching it. Or spreading it. But the window for transmission is much narrower.

I travelled the world in the oil game for 25 years, I know all about regulations and restrictions .... and I also know how tedious and pointless a lot of it can be.

The government are throwing free test kits at the public like confetti, but one to show at the airport costs several hundred quid, or more, depending on where you get it done. Smacks of third world gouging practice to me, and according to the newspapers, a whole load of other people feel the same way.

The fit to fly tests don't cost several hundred quid. Mine was £75.

Her first year at Uni has effectively been a shambles, with lockdown, restrictions, nothing but online study etc, and with 3 more years studying law to go, this is her last chance to do anything before she is effectively thrown into the life long rat race of earning a crust and paying endless bills. So I can’t really blame her for wanting to go away for this summer.

Travel insurance is looking like £160 for her, whereas I paid about £60 last time I had it, two years ago. And she’s 42 years younger than me.....

If she's at uni and she's going to work as a camp counsellor in Canada is she going through BUNAC? They have been around doing what they do for ages and as a happy user of their services many years ago I would recommend going with them for insurance/flights etc. They really do know what they are doing when it comes to providing support and are there to look after folk not just make a quick buck.

Some do. My daughter is paying £90 at Boots, and that is with a discount. Prices are coming down, finally, but a quick google will tell you all you need to know.

Just to share recent experience of traveling to and from an Amber list country (UK-Malta-UK);
Outbound
-Doesn't matter what your vacination status is you need a PCR or equivalent test that negative within 72 hours of you flight. Currently around £90 to £150.
-You need to fill out the passenger locator form for the country you are going to.
-If they have any quarantine restrictions you need to comply with them.


Inbound
-Before you leave the amber list country you need;
--To have a PCR or equivalent test. In Malta this was 35 Euros for an LAMP test and results were recieved within an hour.
--You need to book a day 2 and day 8 test. Day 0 is the day you arrive. You will need the booking reference for the UK passenger locator form. Aroound £100.
--You may wish to book a test to release trst for day 5, this is around £100. If negative you can stop quarantining at the point you recieve the negative result.
--Fill in the UK Passenger locator form, as usual for a government website its an outstanding experience.
---When it asks for passport issuing authority or entity, you need to put in GBR if you have a UK passport. This is not clear on the website.
---You will need to put in the reference number for the day 2 and day 8 tests and if you have booked a test to release you need to put that reference in as well.
---You need to fill out a new form anytime there is a change in you status; eg for me booking a test to release after returning to the UK.
-After arriving you should get a call every day from an 0300 number for test and trace.
-Quarantine for ten days as best as you are able. Or untill you recieve your test to release results, these are usually within 24 hours.
-You still need to do the day 2 and day 8 tests even if you have booked the test to release.

Its been a fun week explaining to the test and trace people on the phone that I have a letter of Exemption and am allowed to work.


Obviously you need to have all you document and test certificates ready at checkins and boarding gates. I found it easier to print it all off this time round. as when i usually travel for work i just have it all on my phone.

Thanks for posting that. I am staying at home, it is too much faf for me!! It will, however, help a lot of other people who have no choice but to travel

She may need councilling herself when she gets back, after 8 weeks doing that.
