First vehicle I drove was my Mum's '78 mk2 Escort. (2 door, Java green, black vinyl roof 1300, looked sporty, wish we still had it) This was in '85 when I was 11. (Private lane) Fearing damage to my Mum's daily driver, I did whack the gates with it once
, I got the first of 5 mot failures, a '76 Mini from a scrapyard and used to tear about the fields and lane in them until they died and were replaced with a similar rust bucket, up until I was 16 and got the freedom of a 50cc Honda moped. This started my lifetime love (obsession) with all things Mini which continues to this day 37 years later. Strange to think now that Mini was only 9 years old when scrapped and only had 70000 odd miles on the clock from memory, loads of 9 year old cars now with plenty of life in them. My own landrover is 8 years old and looks and drives like new still.
