Very Nice
What machine and set up did you use?
You should be happy with that matey.
A nice profile aswell
Perhaps just a few more amps just to burn the edges in a fraction more and aid penetration, but cant realy fault it any more than that
Well done Sean, you've obviously got the feel for it, Ive seen far worse from so called pro's
Hi WCW. Those kind of look a bit like my welds and so what I say is more about my welds than yours, but maybe they may help in that if you are doing what I do, there is plenty of room for improvement...
If you look to the edge of the bead the pitting may be caused by either a dirty tungsten bit (touchdown! ali:1 - welder:0 )or holding the torch a bit too high. (Basically the cone of the arc is too wide imho)This makes controlling the temperature on the weld pool a bit more difficult and I suspect you may not have great penetration of the parent material. Be carefull in that in my experience the filler rod is more likely to melt and start forming a seam before proper parent penetration has been achieved. It also looks as if you have in places done a second pass (4th & 5th pic) on the bead to smooth it down and probably run it at higher amps hot and fast (compared against the 3rd picture which actually does look like it may have good penetration), without adding filler. In my limited experience as a hobbyist, this will indeed lift the filler but underscores the point of little parent penetration and fusion. (i.e. you've glued the two pieces together with filler rather than welded them)
Anyway I know jack sh1te about welding, if they were mine I'd say job done!
I'd be VERY happy with those for first time ally tig welds. Trouble is, now you have to get better
