Tick picks are very handy for removing the little b*sds! I carry a couple of them in the van as have been had by them many times.
Yes they can carry Lyme, both myself and dad have had it in the past, neither ourselves or our doctors realized what it was to start with, and it was only because my dad had had it I knew about it and asked to be checked out.
Not very nice at all!!

I have printed a few of these https://www.printables.com/model/873904-tick-removal-tool a couple for myself and some for my local animal shelter. Worth making if you have the means.

Do your ticks carry Lyme ?

Yes they can do. Ticks are across the UK but more common in some areas espicially where deer populations are high. My parents lived in Lancashire in deer country & there were loads of the poxy things. Mum got bitten & showed the typical bullseye rash of Lyme disease, Doctor prescribed antibiotics straight away & that sorted it. Other people have not been so lucky.
Down here in Essex we get them but not so many.
Friends live in southern Norway & the tick population is unreal.

I’ve been lucky, never had one even though I lived on a farm when I was young, dog got one on her face last year, I got one of those removal tools from the chemist to remove it.

Me, I went to the chemist and bought some nit/head lice shampoo, like a zillion school kids used….

This worked for me when I got one last year - not something I would have thought of. Just be gentle when you do it and the critter reverses out the way it went in.

Never try and suffocate a tick or burn it with a fag to get them to let go, all that does is make them regurgitate all the nasties back into your blood. Get the proper tick pullers.

Never been bitten by a tick - seen other people with the blood suckers on them.

I never had a wasp or bee sting either.

normal is about 3 a year for me , worst one had to get female nurses to remove , it was in a v private place and I did nt want to mess that up and leave the head in.

Friends came round with their dog that had a tick in it's fore leg which they couldn't remove, because we have a tick removing thingy.

They'd smothered it with vaseline (old wives tail) so the removing thingy just slid out from under it however hard they tried, made the dog squeal.

In the end they gave up and took it to the vet, turned out it was a wart!

Expensive one too!

just a warning you should not under any circumstances smother tick with grease or similar , although it suffocates it this makes the tick throw up its contents into your blood stream before it dies .
