Those roller jobs look amazing Chris. Used to roller all the boats, usually with 2k iso then on the final coat finish with a fine brush, good gloss.
It's a low market value daily with high value to me so it is kind of both a banger needing a tidy up and a valuable keeper haha. I'll look up rustoleum.could spray it with rustoleum
hat sort of vehicle is it ...is it banger that needs a tidy up or a valuable keeper
Ah I see. I thought it would basically be halfords rattle can direct gloss but in a paint tin- says its "nitro acrylic?" Maybe a cellulose derivative? That 1k acrylic is basically just ready mixed unibinder paint. Jawel are the only people I've seen selling the iso free 2k paint and I think it's just a marketing trick to make people think it's something better than it really is.
The two reasons why people have problems with it are not using enough thinners and spraying too thick coats with too little flash time.
Not really no but I will enquire to see about cost... Having never resprayed a car before and not wanting the car off the road for long I thought it would be least stress to paint most of the panels (I have spares) bit by bit, then one fine windless dry day in the early summer drive the car in the workshop, take the panels off and paint the rear quarters, shuts and roof then fit the ready painted panels (so far, bonnet, wings and tailgate and a couple of the doors). Means the car should only need to be off the road for a day or two then. I was gonna paint it black so the summer sun should cook it off quite effectively and speed up the "hardening" process.Have you had a look at booth rental near you? I have rented booths before and taken my own ppe/paint/consumables and the tech there even lent a hand when he was bored. They had a guy on hand to make sure you're working safely and not being a muppet/that you have a clue what you're doing. Not sure on the legality of it but I would rather pay £120 a day in cash to a company that meets the regulations for pro use and are happy to allow mr Joe public to use it when they arent. They allowed me to use the air there as well, just took my own 3 stage filter along with an air fed and gun. Just trailering/driving there is the issue but if you can get a taxi/a lift I'm sure they wont mind a car sitting around for a day or so while you let it cure enough to drive home.
That's exactly what unibinder paint is, just has more thinners in a rattle can.Ah I see. I thought it would basically be halfords rattle can direct gloss but in a paint tin
Most paint manufacturers do a unibinder, its intended for making up custom mixed aerosols.I have seen MIPA make a converter/ unibinder too, its on ebay and it sells. I assume jawel just buy it from valspar or mipa.
That's what the guys selling the mipa stuff said. Thing is the aerosols do go hard, I have one which I used to touch in a scrape on my Scimitar and after a few weeks it passed the nail test. If it works out of an aerosol is can work out of a spray gun I guess but I suspect that's the issue, the people using guns are hosing it on more than an aerosol which will atleast be partly down to jawel recommending too small an amount of thinners and then also putting it on too thick. Ive been researching hmg nisocoat 2 which looks like it could be good- not too expensive and it definitely cross links but is still isocyanate free. Most paint manufacturers do a unibinder, its intended for making up custom mixed aerosols.
They just insisted it shouldn't be used on cars for some reason, I did ask about UV stability and they said that's not an issue. Perhaps the fact the gloss is only 90%?why are they saying its not for automotive use ? any mention of uv stable etc ?
can you buy a small amount and try a test panel ?
That makes sense! Most likely the warning about automotive use, is about matching. Same as industrial / commercial paints as the pigment control may not be as accurate.
It claims to be very durable including outdoors but on the tech sheet it says gloss is 90%. Maybe this is why.I looked at nisocoat2 as well back when I was researching it all. Its recommended as a commercial vehicle and plant coating so may not have the gloss level or retention for proper automotive use and has limited colours. Its still nasty stuff so I would be wary spraying in a residential area.
I've had good results with HMG M99 cellulose and upol 1k acrylic smart clear, I think M99 would be fine for your application, or go with unibinder as you seem to understand how to use it.
Hey dude! It's doing sterling back up duties. Somehow I managed to fry the abs pump and module changing the alternator but swapping those bits off my crashed one got the warning lights to go away. Atleast it's had a thorough brake fluid flush from that haha.Hello mate! I want my blue estate back..
