Wozzaaah have you checked the control relay for the heater plugs? Check to see that they are not still heating the plugs after the light goes out.

Yes I have and it's working as it should, relay energises when the ignition is switched on, goes off, comes on again during cranking, stays on for 180 secs or until engine is warm. Exactly as the manual says. Those wellman plugs have a considerably larger element than the HKT ones. I wish I'd noted which ones failed the last times, it would be interesting if it was the same cylinders.
