First come first served ? Car sales

Car, or car part sales, really do seem to attract a special breed.

I alleviate this by only ever selling my car's to the scrap yard. At least you can just call them and they tell you their price per tonne...

He offered 2K then 3k, his pockets just weren't deep enough or he had really short arms. His problem.....

Sold a few things that I have under priced considerably considering the responses I have got but I hate it when people badger you even offering more than the asking price though you have quite clearly told them some ones arranged to come see it already they get fist refusal and the price will have to stay as advertised.

But no your first lot are a bunch of wallies. First person to turn up with closest to the advertised price in hand gets it. Haye these shows like salvage hunters and even wheeler dealers when they beat people down even though the price is fair.

Having said that I'm never much good at batering. If it's a fair price I just pay it, if not I walk away.

Can you imagine queueing up in a shop....getting to the till and then asking for 25% off. Then saying nobody else can be served until you've got your discount!

You were more than fair...not paying the asking price is first refusal in my book.

Those idiots annoy me. Had them all when we had a motorbike clear out. One guy got silly because he had driven x hundred miles and I refused to move on the price

I find another "sorting" method is to explain on the phone, on the initial conversation, that i consider the price to be a true representation, and that they are more than welcome to come and view before purchase, but that further, in person, negotiation is not something i want to get into.

Most people in our society, i think, feel easier when they know where they are with pricing. I dont overprice things, expecting to drop. I price at what i think the final sale price will be.

If you need the money its very easy to get sucked in with these boys.
Offering £2000 for a £4500 is an insult. If he had of offered £3500 and tried to meet you around £4000 was reasonable but to offer £2000 he needed told where to go.
If someone offers me stupid money, I take the keys and lock the car. Say you cant afford this car, you better look for a different one and walk off.

Mind you if you want real fun then selling your house can be a real pain.
In 2017 we lost 3 buyers who had a mortgage in principle offer, but when due diligence was done by the building society, it went no further for different reasons - including a church pastor who knowingly lied on his mortgage application.
In 2018 we put it back on the market and eventually got a buyer, down to agreeing the price, this the day before I'm due to have a colonoscopy on the Saturday, a total of 6 phone calls and we agree the price, but the buyer wants it completed in 6 weeks - at which time I very politely reminded the estate agent we are dealing with solicitors, so that's not going to happen in that time scale AND do not phone me before Monday unless the buyer accepts that we will move as quick as possible.
Needless to say they agreed.

We moved 13 weeks later, as fast as we could do it and it included me having major surgery.

Finally persuaded the eldest it was time to sell her mini on. Priced it at 4.5k with an expectation of 4k and placed it on fb marketplace.

Ill call him Tim because thats his name, contacted me, could he come and have a look. He’s a classic car collector, buying it with his business partner blah blah.

so on the friday he came, kicked the tyres, took some pics for his partner, proceeded to start going on about parkers classic guide blah blah and offered 2k (because it needed painting which was clearly stated in the ad)

I politely wished him luck, in finding a mini that didnt need welding or going through mechanically for that price, and off he went.

in the meanwhile Ive had 2 genuinely interested parties enquiring.

Tim comes back with David on the Sunday, they both sniff about the car and offer 3. I told them quite plainly that 4 was the lowest expectation, and I had 2 viewings arranged. I did tell them that the eldest had said they could do one but I was too polite to tell them to do one.

meanwhile still loads of “is it available” messages. So I mark the listing as pending, to give the 2 interested parties a chance to view, as they were from a distance.

Tim must have spotted this, and rang me to ask whats going on. Told him that I had 2 parties interested who had said that the asking price was fair, and if it didnt sell, then it would be marked as available again.
Tim decides to go off on one saying, thats not fair, they were the first to view, and should be offered first refusal. I did politely point out that having insulted my intelligence , I thought it was only fair that the genuine parties get offered a viewing, and that it would go for our asking price.

so on Thursday, one of the parties viewed, and needless to say happily paid the asking price.

marked the listing as sold, and guess what, mesage from Tim saying how disappointed he was in the way I conducted the sale of the car. Now I like to think I am a genuine and honest person, and this is playing on my mind a bit. Does anyone else think Tims totally out of order here ? Ps I didnt reply with what the eldest called him

Tesco don’t hold your shopping for you until you decide you like the price; they just sell until they run out of stock: same as you, except your stock was 1.

folk like that do my head in, and i’d have no hesitation in responding to Tim the Pillock with a message telling him he’s a top-class, card-carrying arsebiscuit.

As above, put him on your blocked list and carry on living. A friend of mine sells bike parts on ebay and was getting abuse and questions from someone after a chainring saying the postage was too high and he could get a new one for the price asked. My mate just replied go and get one then you can't buy mine as I blocked you from bidding.

Simply this ^^. Block and don't respond to any messages, however conveyed.

As a buyer, once your offer and counter offers etc have been turned down then just say thanks and leave!!!

There is a big difference between offering less because thats all you can afford ....and trying to beat the price down by making out what is being sold isn't worth the money.

I've sold things to people for a lot less simply because I liked them and I could tell they really wanted what was being sold.
