Finally got around to getting some gas and taking my 'new' mig welder for a test drive.
Welder is an old oxford 161, gas is SGS co2/ argon 5% mix.
In terms of gas flow even with the valve wide open I was only hitting 8lpm on my peashooter gauge.. the regulator itself was reading 40lpm! I turned it down to about 15lpm according to the reg (about 3lpm on my eBay pea shooter).
This is 3mm flat bar. Didn't clean it up first as I just wanted a quick play about in a spare 10 minutes.
Found pulling the weld pool to be a lot easier, is this just preference or is one way better to focus on? Those welds are on similar settings apart from bottom right which was almost maxed out.
Also tried a little join on some 1.6mm sheet (i think). Angle of torch was definitely not into the joint enough after the first 5cm.
Any tips welcome before I have another crack tomorrow.
