First attempts

Having being made redundant 12 months ago and also recovering from a carpull tunel op i tried my hand,(well my good hand ) at 2 small jobs.

A linear mirror carp and a horse.These were made with basic tools and a small buzz box ( aldi special )

I will be ordering a portamig 185 and a small rtech plasma next month,i plan to try making more things from steel.
So what do you think ? thats if the pics work.

Hi Strada, The springy horsey is brilliant!! The mirror carp is lovely too, I can see you have an eye!! A mirror carp was the first fish my daughter caught at a pond near my workshop, I couldn't believe how amazing they look! You could go further with that and there is real scope there for lots of detail work, using your new mig welder or repousse to show the scales if you wanted. Great stuff!

I had carpal tunnel surgery just over two years ago, it put me out of doing blacksmithing work for just under a year, took forever to heal, and it was really frustrating. I had lots of scar tissue built up, they even sent me to have ultrasound therapy on my hand! I'm so glad it's sorted now though!

I had quite a rough time with it myself.starting with the surgeon not giving me enough anisthetic. He nearly got a left hook Then he had the cheek to say its my fault for having big hands
The doc says i could also have compartment syndrome in my forearm.
I also burst my stitches fitting some stable doors at my shoot,that hurt a bit Glad your sorted now.

What is the horse body made from ?? Steel rings ?

Yes the body is made of rings ,about 50mm.
I cut a handfull out first,then cut small sections out of the rings to give it some shape.
