Great job mike.I didn't really get a chance to practice today as I kept being called out with work. However the operating/ashpan tool for my log burner broke last night so I thought I should fix that before tonight. Normally I would have gone for the blowtorch and some silver solder, however I don't have any silver solder at the moment and there was no chance of getting any on a Sunday, especially with being on standby.
It was definitely a challenge to weld given my inexperience, and I don't think it would win any awards for appearance but it is back together.
I started off with the amps too low as I was worried about blowing through, and this actually made it harder as the puddle took for ever to form and had no penetration. I cleaned it up again and increased the amps and it went a bit better. I'm looking forward to going back to practising on flat bar again until I am considerably better. I found it really hard trying to follow a tight curve round the 8mm bar whilst maintain arc length and torch angle.
