had our staffy put down last year, was not well, could hardly walk, and not make it outside to do his 1s and 2s, only thing he was ever scared of was fireworks, there first bang he would hear he would creep to his cage, then sit there shaking, now we have a french bulldog, just over a year old who wants to sit outside to watch them.

Our dog is shaking and panting. Tried all the usual distractions, she doesn't want treats, just peace and quiet. It's a rural area with sheep, horses and cattle. I'm restraining myself from driving around to the various to55ers houses and pi55ing on their fireworks. One night, OK, 5 sodding nights is a joke. It's not even the 5th yet.

It's been quiet for about 30 mins and Peggy is asleep on the daughter's bed. I'm hoping that's it tonight but there's a builder/property developer across the valley that always buys the biggest/baddest fireworks, personal plates on his vans, and is always right. I'm pretty sure he'll want the last salvo and wake her up.

Bonfire night, 5th November, it celebrates the execution of Guy Fawkes and the discovery of the gunpowder plot to destroy Parliament and the King. As most things, it's now mainly a commercial enterprise, but I did enjoy it as a kid, but it was just one night. Now it's a whole week between Halloween and Bonfire night. Halloween wasn't as big as it is now until recently. Same as baby showers and gender reveal parties, were copying American customs.

20 odd years ago in the USA with a young British colleague - he was amazed to discover Nov 5th wasn't a thing in the USA . . . he somehow had managed to miss taking in any UK history in his entire education!
Mind you - I've had similar from more than one American who have have been surprised July 4th wasn't a celebration in the UK

My GSD wasn't bothered by them at all, or any other loud noises. Not like she was deaf, she could hear the fridge door open from 30 yards away.
When I was a kid we used to have a huge bonfire on a bit of waste land up the road. Took weeks to build. But it was lit on the 5th, along with the fireworks, irrespective of whether the following day was a school or work day. You did get the odd banger going off a few days before, but now the thing seems to on for weeks.
I used to love it, but now its just an annoyance.

I think it's a bit more regulated than that.
We crossed one state line and within 500mtrs there was huge department stores in the middle of nowhere.
1 liquor, 1 tobacco and 1 fireworks department store.
People cross the state lines and run the gauntlet.
I think in some states fireworks is banned altogether.
